IMPD: Juvenile shot, killed on east side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS -- A juvenile was shot and killed on the east side of Indianapolis on Friday night.

According to a press release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the 800 block of Treyburn Green Drive -- which is located near the intersection of South Mitthoeffer Road and East Prospect Street -- just before 5 p.m. for a death investigation.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a juvenile male who had sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. Medics were called to the scene, and soon after they arrived, the victim was pronounced dead.

IMPD homicide detectives later responded to the area to launch an investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency was also dispatched to the scene to help police gather evidence.

IMPD did not specify the juvenile's exact age, but the Marion County Coroner's Office is expected to identify the decedent once his family has been properly notified of his death. MCCO will also help IMPD determine the boy's exact manner and cause of death.

Police are asking those with information on the shooting to contact detective Shem Ragsdale by calling (317) 327-3475 or emailing [email protected].

Alternatively, tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana by calling (317) 262-8477, using the P3Tips mobile app or visiting www.CrimeTips.org.

As of this article's publication, it is unclear exactly when the juvenile was shot and how much time passed between the moment he was injured and when police found him. IMPD has not yet announced whether or not its detectives have identified any suspects or persons of interest related to the shooting.
