Man Hospitalized in Officer Involved Shooting at Texas Buc-ee's

According to a KHOU report, a shooting took place late Friday night at the Buc-ee's located at 6201 Gulf Freeway in Texas City.

An off-duty police officer who was working security at the travel center allegedly observed a man attempting to shoplift merchandise from the store. The KHOU report goes on to state that the officer tried to apprehend the suspect.

The man then started resisting and tried to get away from the officer. This led to the off-duty policeman attempting to taser the suspect. The taser reportedly did not work and the officer eventually shot the shoplifting suspect. The confrontation and shooting all took place in the parking lot of this Texas City Buc-ee's.

There are no other details at this time as to what led to the decision to shoot the individual. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As is the case with any Texas officer-involved shooting, the Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into what led to the shooting. The Galveston County District Attorney's Office is also conducting an investigation.

Neither the name of the injured suspect nor the name of the officer involved in the shooting has been released at this time.

The incident took place just before 11 p.m. on Friday. Police officers and detectives quickly cordoned off the area around the gas pumps where the altercation happened.
